The banana museum has been settled on june 1996 in a real banana farm. Located on the north coast of the island, in the parish of Sainte-Marie.
A Genium place full with history. One of the most important sugar cane factory of island in the 18th century .
The sugar cane house and the rum distillery’s vestiges are still visible nowadays and testify success in its activities.

Its successive owners, members of the older family of the island – sir De Salle, from 1720 to 1820 and sir Le VASSOR de LATOUCHE from 1820 to 1882- has made a wonderful and prestigious area with this old sugar and rum refinery’s dwelling.

In 1882, the name “LIMBE” meaning “broken heart” was given to the old house, at that very same time economic crisis spread through the island.

This crisis was so serious and important that in the beginning of the XXst century, most sugar cane fields had to be transformed into banana plantations because of better profit. This actual sugar cane refinery has restructured into banana plantation around 1960.

Nowadays, Limbe is a successful example and also a wonderful place to settle up an agriculture museum ._____________
