The banana plant belongs to the herbaceous Musa family (group of plant which embryo is constituted of one single leaf). Its false trunk can reach many meters high in only one year.

The most ancient trace of this plant were discover in the south east of Asia.

Probably banana plant have been grown near inhabitants for traditional using. Indeed, the long fibres of the stem were used to make fishnet for fisherman, rope and sometimes clothe for simple dressing.
In another way, the stem was an excellent floater and the leaves were used for makeshift.

The Stem

Two initials species (Musa Acuminata and Musa Balbisiana) were diversify because of men’s migrations when bringing them away from the ecologic conditions. Therefore, some hybrid subspecies appeared and mixed one to another.

It is the result of 300 edible recorded species in the world.
